International Women's Day 2019

UNSW celebrated International Women’s Day (IWD) on March 8 this year with Faculty-led activities across campuses to the official IWD 2019 theme, #balanceforbetter and ask how can we have a more gender-balanced world?

The Division held a special International Women’s Day breakfast event with guest speakers; The Honourable Justice Margaret Beazley QC AO, Governor-Designate of New South Wales and Ruby Leonard, the Women’s Officer on the 2019 UNSW Student Representative Council. The audience participated in an engaging Q&A panel discussion afterwards with Justice Margaret Beazley, Ruby Leonard, Professor Eileen Baldry, and UNSW Gender Champions.

“We really hope to improve the opportunities for all women at UNSW and want to support female colleagues to reach their career aspirations. We are passionate about improving gender equity by broadening opportunities, finding role models and mentors. There is a chance for everyone to thrive in a gender balanced workplace”.  International Women’s Day guest panellist & Gender Champion, Professor Adrienne Torda.

The ‘We Can’ promotion for IWD2019 featured a group of students and staff who are challenging the status quo in their own way, making the way for a better balance, better world. 'We Can' be leaders, study, have a career in STEMM or any area that interests us, make a difference and care for those we love. 'We Can' do all of this and ignite a #balance for better for women now and the next generations to come.
