UNSW Pride

Happy Mardi Gras!

The 2022 Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Festival runs from 18 February - 6 March. To celebrate last year's festival, UNSW took part in the parade at the Sydney Cricket Ground, dancing to "Pride (In the Name of Love)", and in 2020, over 1,000 students and staff created the UNSW Human Rainbow.

While it may continue in different forms this year, we remain committed to marking the importance of Mardi Gras and reaffirming our #UNSWPride. UNSW values that our community is made up of diverse genders, sexes and sexualities; and we continually strive to make our University a welcoming place for LGBTQIA+ students and staff.

This year, the Mardi Gras Parade continues to party at the Sydney Cricket Ground, with a float and dance routine to the Jamelia classic "Superstar". If you can't snap up a ticket to see it in person, you will be able to watch our UNSW Pride live on ABC.

A small number of places in the parade group are now available! First in, best dressed.

Supporting our LGBTQIA+ community at UNSW

This student-led collective supports and represents all students on campus who are queer - that is, people who identify anywhere within the queer and queer questioning spectrum.

Since 2008, UNSW has built a network of students and staff who pledge to take a proactive stance against discrimination based on diverse genders, sexes and sexualities.

In 2020, to celebrate the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras, over 1,000 students and staff came together in person on the Kensington campus to create the UNSW Human Rainbow.
