UNSW launches new SDG brand toolkit

The custom UNSW guidelines and toolkit will support and encourage staff to share and amplify work towards the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The SDGs and their targets are a call to action on the world’s most pressing challenges, including ending poverty and hunger, climate change and reducing inequality. Each year the Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings measure university progress towards the SDGs. The new brand toolkit is designed to support our THE Impact Rankings submission by boosting visibility of SDG-related work happening across UNSW. The development of the resources was a  collaboration between the Division of Equity Diversity & Inclusion (EDI), the Division of External Engagement (DEE) and UNSW Brand.

They are available on the Brand Hub now and will enable all staff to:

  • Download accessible and co-branded presentation, document and article templates. 
  • Correctly tag Inside UNSW and UNSW Newsroom content so it automatically appears in the UNSW Sustainability Matters website newsfeed.
  • Find guidance on how to reference the SDGs using clear and consistent language and design when creating content.

The Sustainability Matters website is the main UNSW SDG site supporting our annual submission to the THE Impact Rankings. The methodology for the Impact Rankings shows that visibility of our contributions towards the SDGs through online articles, news stories and social media contribute greatly to our overall score.

This year’s Impact Rankings was submitted on 11 November and the Sustainability Matters website is being updated to complement the submission and showcase the best of UNSW’s work towards the SDGs in 2021. Use of the toolkit and appropriate article tagging will ensure all our latest news and great work is up to date and available in one place. Content can be tagged as a general SDG piece or to a specific SDG.

“Thank you everyone who has contributed so far to our THE Impact Rankings submission this year. There is a huge amount of incredible work happening at UNSW that contributes greatly towards progressing the SDGs and the UN’s 2030 Agenda - from developing innovative recycling technologies, to transforming the production of solar energy, to plastic free dining on campus,” said Rita Henderson, Associate Dean (Equity & Diversity), School of Chemical Engineering and Chair of the SDG Steering Committee. 

“With these new guidelines and toolkit, and the new article tagging method, we can support everyone at UNSW to more easily aggregate and amplify the work that we do as a collective.”
