Australian Workplace Equality Index

The national benchmark on LGBTQ workplace inclusion

The Australian Workplace Equality Index ( AWEI) comprises the largest and only national employee survey designed to gauge the overall impact of inclusion initiatives on organisational culture as well as identifying and non-identifying employees.

The Australian LGBTIQ+ Inclusion Awards is an event celebrating and awarding Australia’s top organisations for LGBTIQ+ inclusion based on the results of AWEI, in addition to leaders, individuals and networks that have made a significant impact on LGBTIQ+ inclusion within their workplaces.

Gold Employer status

UNSW was recognised by AWEI with Bronze awards in 2018 and 2019 and has achieved the level of Gold Employer status in 2020, 2021 and 2022, acknowledging the University’s students and staff as leaders in LGBTIQ+ inclusion.

AWEI drives best practice in Australia and sets a comparative benchmark for Australian employers across all sectors. For this reason alone, the Index has to be comprehensive and rigorous. The work compiled annually by employers submitting for the Index is a testament to the importance of LGBTIQ+ inclusion with their current diversity and inclusion initiatives.
