UNSW will make certain students with disability are factored into the development, design and delivery of the educational curriculum. In line with this commitment, funding has been allocated to the Digital Experience Unit to engage with Intopia, an agency that focuses on increasing digital accessibility. This external review will ensure UNSW is adhering to disability inclusion best practice, when designing, creating and testing digital interfaces for learning and teaching.
UNSW has also provided assistive technology for staff and students, with the newly updated Claro Pro Multi-Platform and Dragon Professional software. Claro Pro has extensive proofreading capabilities, can scan documents and read the text aloud, convert any document to a more readable format and includes visual tools that highlight and explain difficult words. Dragon professional is a speech recognition program that enables users to speak into a microphone and have their words transcribed in real time. These programs enable students and staff of all abilities to reach their career and academic goals.
UNSW is dedicated to ensuring the university’s physical and digital infrastructure accommodates the needs of people with disabilities. UNSW’s Disability Inclusion Action Plan provides a detailed framework of the initiatives UNSW will be implementing to make the learning and teaching experience inclusive.
