New and updated resources will help UNSW Sydney staff ensure their communications and events are welcoming, and fully accessible and inclusive.
The guides are part initiatives launched under UNSW's Disability Inclusion Action Plan (DIAP). The plan aims to provide equal access for people with disability and enable all students and staff to contribute fully and actively at the University.
“UNSW is a richly diverse and inclusive community, and these new resources are part of our commitment to ensuring equitable participation in learning, working and teaching experiences for people of all abilities,” said Professor Jackie Leach Scully, Director at the UNSW Disability Innovation Institute, Executive Sponsor of the DIAP 2022-2025 and Chair of the DIAP Implementation Team.
“The launch of the new guides provides all staff with a great opportunity to consider and take essential steps to improve accessibility in their communications, events and day-to-day work.”
The Division of Equity Diversity & Inclusion (EDI), the Division of External Engagement (DEE) and the Centre for Ideas have developed the guides collaboratively. They include:
- A new Accessibility website.
- Our inclusive language guide (in the UNSW Writing Style Guide) and updated brand templates, which are all located on the Brand Hub. Templates have been updated to ensure they are compatible with screen readers.
- Updated meeting and event guidelines for both in-person and digital events, available via the Accessible and Inclusive Events Hub. They include UNSW best practice guidelines for Teams and Zoom meetings and for correct captioning of all video content.
